Avoid Using Email as a Vehicle for Unsubscribing
Recently, we have learned that some spam filter maintainers are penalizing email senders who are using an email link as a vehicle for recipients to unsubscribe themselves when no longer wanting to receive mailings.
The email link when clicked on for unsubscribing will point the recipient directly to their email box where the recipient will have to send an email requesting to be unsubscribed to a designated email address. Because of this, some spam filter maintainers are blacklisting organizations that force recipients to email their request to unsubscribe. The issue with this is that recipients requesting to be unsubscribed are not being unsubscribed from mailings.
The appropriate method for unsubscribing individuals is using a form that will automatically unsubscribe the person by simply clicking on an unsubscribe button. As an example, Informz will automatically unsubscribe individuals who click on the link and are taken to a form where the recipient can view his or her email address for verification and then click on a button to unsubscribe. The result of this will protect you as the email sender from violating anti-spam laws and help prevent spam filter maintainers from blacklisting your organization or flagging all emails as spam.
